Simply Elderberry

The dark blue-purple berries of the elder tree, also known as black elder and European elder, are widely used in Northern Europe to make soups, jams and jellies.

The berries are also used to make a variety of alcoholic beverages, including a juniper-flavored gin called Beers Vlierke.

Medicinally, Elderberries can be fashioned into tisanes, syrups and lozenges to combat coughs.
